New Bodleian Library

  • The refurbishment of a Grade II listed building, originally design by Sir Gilbert Scott as a depository with the shelving support steelwork also acting as the main building supports
  • Refurbishment was to achieve National Archive standard environmental conditions dictated by BS 5454:2000
  • A new ventilation concept was developed by Hurley Palmer Flatt that was proved by the use of computational fluid dynamics and proved in a mock-up
  • The refurbished facility will house the special collections held by Oxford University Library services
  • HDR | Hurley Palmer Flatt undertook the MEP design as well as the BREEAM and Energy Statements for Planning
  • The works we undertake with Oxford University are frequently funded by grants and charitable donations
