Focus School, Kenley
Focus School, Kenley

- The project centred around the creation of a school from a disused RAF workshop building (1,400m²) on the historic airfield at Kenley in Surrey
- Created a school environment for 140 pupils including self-directed learning facility for GCSE and A-Level years
- The existing site had no incoming services so HDR | Hurley Palmer Flatt reviewed utility capacity requirements and applications
- The building is Grade II listed with some single glazed windows, which posed Part L and energy efficiency challenges
- A large assembly hall was created which required structural alterations and detailed space conditioning assessments
- The project required close attention to services co-ordination, plant access and fire compartmentation to satisfy building control and environmental officers
