Digital Garage – Hoxton Square, London
- The building was designed for use by the Aviva research teams and was intended to provide an environment that was conducive to stimulating new ideas for their business; as such they were looking for something different and ‘edgy’ rather than a traditional style of office. They wanted flexibility because teams may be located on site in Hoxton for a short period while a particular project is undertaken – when a project is completed the teams will return to their usual offices elsewhere.
- The building has all exposed services. The plant is located externally on the rear roof. Hurley Palmer Flatt provided full MEP design and specialist lighting advice. The building uses VRF air source heat pumps to provide heating and cooling. The air handling equipment incorporates thermal wheels for heat recovery. LED lighting is used throughout. Power was distributed at high level because a raised access floor could not be accommodated. Perimeter desks are served off the walls and a specialist kitchen is incorporated for Aviva to host executive dinners when required. The programme was short and involved the building being occupied whilst the contractor was completing the project.
