Technical Bulletin

Insulation materials

In the light of the Grenfell Tower fire, the Technical Board have been reviewing HPF’s specifications to ensure that we are adhering to best practice.  One item of note is in the use of certain types of insulation in particular phenolic foams and elastomeric nitrile rubber (e.g. Armaflex) products.  All of these products are available to comply with Building Regulations Class 0 standards; however our specifications currently leave it to the specifier on each project to identify the fire class.  We will be modifying our specifications to ensure that whenever these products are used they are Class O only, in the meantime please can all engineers involved in specifying insulation to pipework and ductwork etc ensure that Class 0 products are used.
