At Nottingham University, Prof. Saffa B Riffat, Dr. Matthew Hall, Dr Xudong Zhao, Dr Jie Zhu, and Christine Ballard, a dedicated PhD student, are working hand-in-hand with hurleypalmerflatt directors David Young and Stuart Bowman, who leads our Energy Division.

Seven Key Research Issues

Throughout 2006 and 2007, the team will investigate seven key areas:

  1. The impact of changes to Part L and EU Energy Performance Certificates on tenants and landlords
  2. The current spatial standards for office accommodation and working practices
  3. Environmental design criteria and energy system design methods
  4. Renewable energy technologies, their integration into building design and the scope of prefabrication in building construction
  5. Economic, energy saving and environmental impacts of the proposed building energy systems and renewable facilities
  6. Best practice for office environmental design within Central London
  7. Shell, Willis, BSkyB buildings as case studies enabling analysis of best practice
